Make Your Own Fascinator | DIY Fancy Hat – Satsuma Designs
Introduction
If you’re someone who enjoys tea parties as much as we do at Satsuma Kids Shop, then you know the importance of wearing a fancy hat to set the mood. In this DIY guide, we’ll show you how to make your own fascinator with just a few materials and minimal time investment. A fascinator is a stylish headpiece that can replace a traditional hat at formal events such as weddings and high teas. Whether you prefer a headband, clip, or comb, we’ve got you covered!
Choosing the Right Base
When it comes to selecting the base for your fascinator, there are various options to consider. In our crafting session, we used both headbands and clips, and both worked equally well. However, if you’re creating a fascinator for an active little lady, we recommend using a headband instead of a clip. This way, you can ensure that the fascinator stays securely in place during all her fun-filled activities.
Hosting a Fascinator Tea Party
Why not turn your fascinator-making experience into a tea party event? It’s a fantastic idea to gather your friends and have a delightful time crafting fascinators together. Make sure to set up a photo booth with a fun backdrop using fabric or streamers. And don’t forget to provide the perfect accessories to complete the tea party looks. Materials Needed
Before you begin your crafting session, gather the following materials:
- Base (headband, clip, or comb)
- Creative accessories (silk flowers, beads, feathers, ribbon, tulle, jewels, etc.)
- Felt in coordinating color(s)
- Glue gun and glue
- Scissors
Steps to Make Your Own Fascinator
- Start by heating up your glue gun and preparing your materials.
- Have fun experimenting with different layering techniques and arrangement of flowers and tulle.
- Once you’ve created a design that you’re happy with, cut an oval-shaped piece of felt to serve as the base for your fascinator.
- Carefully glue your chosen accessories to the felt, securing them in place.
- Depending on the type of base you’re using (headband, clip, or comb), either attach the clip to your base or glue the headband onto it.
- For added security, consider placing an additional strip of felt over the back of the headband.
- That’s it! Your lovely new fascinator is ready to be worn.
Embrace the Fascinator Anytime
Don’t limit wearing your fascinator to just special occasions. Feel free to incorporate it into your everyday style whenever you want to create a fun and playful moment, with or without the kids. After all, fashion should be enjoyable!
Fascinator Design Ideas
Need some inspiration? Here are a few fascinator designs we put together using different materials:
Tulle + Pearl Fascinator
For this design, we layered about 10 layers of tulle and tied a large pearl bead with another piece of tulle. Then, we glued the tulle bundle to a clip. Voila!
Violet + Tulle Fascinator
In this design, we used a purple flower and incorporated tulle by attaching it to a felt base and headband.
Silk Rose + Tulle Fascinator
A beautiful silk rose served as the centerpiece for this fascinator design. We attached it to a felt base and headband.
Red Rose Fascinator
Using our tulle gathering technique, we created a bundle of red tulle and attached it to a red silk flower. We removed the stem from the flower to make it easier to glue.
